Mothers

As Mother’s Day is fast approaching, I thought it would be a good time to remind everyone, that to be the best Mom you can be – is to show up as your BEST SELF.

What this means of course, is that first and foremost you need to take care of YOU.  This is vital to you being your best self, which enables you to be the best Mom you can be too!

I know, a lot of us when we think about taking care of ourselves come up with excuses like “I don’t have time”, “but the kids need (fill in the blank), “I just have to do this first”, “I can’t afford it”, or my favourite “I keep meaning to, but I just get too busy and forget”.

Imagine your car for a moment.  What if you were too busy or didn’t have enough time to put gas in it?  Would it run?  Or what if you just kept meaning to put gas in, but got too busy and forgot?  Yep, same answer.  Your car can’t run without gas, the same way you can’t run on no energy.

You also can’t function at optimal levels if your immune system is low, or your emotional health is not good, or your physical health isn’t good, and also if you are mentally drained.

So how do you remedy this?

Make yourself a priority as well as your loved ones.  You don’t have to sacrifice yourself in order to be of value to others.  You can do both.

TIP – schedule YOU into your busy life.  That’s right, actually block off time on your calendar/schedule for you.  Call it “self-care”.

If you block off the time, then it makes it impossible to use the excuse “I don’t have time”.

Also, notice how much more energy you have for those precious children when you are physically fit.

TIP – start with 15 mins of any activity, walk, ride, stretch, whatever you choose, and build from there.

Mentally, you are much more able to handle things in a calm way if you have a calm mind.

TIP – meditate, or relax in a hot bubble bath with candles and zen music.

Emotional wellbeing is crucial – so do things that bring you joy.  And I mean that bring YOU joy.  Not joy for hubby, joy for the kids, or joy for the rest of the planet.  Just for YOU.  You will be a much nicer person to have around because of it.  Write a list of things that bring you joy, and schedule some of them into your calendar/scheduler.

Taking care of you, means you are showing up as the BEST Mom you can be!

Happy Mother’s Day!!

Blessings,

Julie
